Guitar Amplifiers

Hello and welcome to my blog.   Before i continue, i just want to let everyone know that if you are interested in anything about Guitar Amplifiers and want to find it on my website, just use the search bottom towards the top of the page, input the particular thing that you are interested in, and hot go.  That will bring it up.

Ever since i was a young boy, i was completely in love with guitars.  I really was.  Notions of me being on stage with the guitar and amplifier by my side, playing these rocked out tunes to 30,000 + people were the regular dreams that i had.  I so wanted to be a rock star when i grew up.  But life, a family, and a job put all of that away.  But i never stopped thinking of that.

So instead, i guess the next best thing is to write about it, and specifically, about guitar amplifiers.   And for people that are not familiar with guitar amplifiers, or just want to know what it is for, the simple answer is that it  is a device that increases the amplitude of a signal that is coming through it. So what this equipment will do is make the signal that is going into the amplifier louder through a speaker . Now the two main stages of an amplifier are

  • Pre-amplifier stage
In the Pre-amplifier stage, signals coming from the guitar are increased and these signals can also be controlled in order to make the sound that the musician wants.
In the Power Amplifier stage, this current generated from the pre-amplifier stage reach a persons ears to produce the music sound.

But we also need to discuss the four different types of amplifiers that are out there.  There are:

Let’s start with the modeling amplifier. They take the signal that is going into it and digitalize it. And from here it improves the qulity of the signal from the tube amplifier.
Then there is the Tube Amplifier. Here is where the tube vacuum is used.  What this does is fabricate the sound that is coming from a signal with the utmost in quality.

Next is the Hybrid Amplifier.  What happens here is the tube amplifier is fed into a solid state of matter in a pre-Amplifier Circuit.

Hybrid amplifier: Here tube amplifier is fed by solid state in pre-amplifier circuit. Features include distortion, Volume Control.  Volume control is one of the features of this area or category of amplifier.

And finally there is the solid state amplifier.  Also called the transistor, this is most wanted by the musician that wants sturdiness and reliability.  For this very reason, it is the favorite of many jazz enthusiasts around the world.

Now also there are two configurations of guitar amplifiers that need to be discussed as well.  There are the Combo and the Head and Cabinet.

In the Combo, it is the choice of amplifier if you are playing in smaller establishments, like small clubs.  It consists of one amplifier and several speakers.

Head & cabinet is the better choice if you are going to be playing in a very large arena, like big concert tours or just plain big places.

So there you have it.  This is some of the basic information about guitar amplifiers and i hope you enjoyed it.  As i said before, take a look around and see what i have to offer.  And leave your comments at the bottom and let me know what you think.  Feedback is very welcome and appreciated.  So have a great day and enjoy!

And here’s a video on guitar amplifiers.  An introduction and tutorial if you will.  Check it out!!
